Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
