Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
