Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police shared surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
