The former Liverpool manager states a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, now holds positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage any other side within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, so I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash with his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates too. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is challenging. Impossible.”
