Trump Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
White House Call
The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid public safety in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the press. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and halt issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
