Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular program wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
